The Anansi Writers Workshop was founded in1990by Kamau Daáood, Akilah Oliver, Nafis Nabawi and Anthony LyonsatThe World Stage Performance Gallery. In 1993, MichaelDatcherinitiated the development of a three-part format for theworkshop.Our tradition of a community workshop began in the late1960s atthe Watts Writers’ Workshop, where World Stage co-founderKamauDaáood started his writing career. Although countlessworkshopparticipants have gone on to publish books with otherpresses, afew of the dedicated workshop participants saw the needfor TheWorld Stage to have its own publishing company. So inDecember of2014, nearly twenty four years after the workshop began,ConneyWilliams and Hiram Sims formed World Stage Press, which is ahomefor the creation and proliferation of AfricanAmericanLiterature.
